In keeping current trends in research, starting in 2009, the Archivio Capitolare of Pistoia undertook a project of progressive digitalization of part of its large collection of books and documents (medieval manuscripts, incunabula, account books, parchment rolls, etc.). The website aims to make the book and archival materials of the Archivio Capitolare (as well as the scientific instruments, which fill various different functions) usable, and in the end to make them accessible for consultation in the present as well as to guarantee their conservation in the future. The materials selected for digitization were chosen according to various criteria, including their age, textual significance, and artistic value (the Archive conserves an important holding of medieval manuscripts, a collection of illuminated choir books and many 16th-century musical editions for which only a single copy remains).

Additionally, the site plans include other initiatives:

 - the cataloguing activity in progress since 2009;

 - contributions that, in various ways, catalogue, study, publish, and cite the materials in the Archivio Capitolare (downloadable as PDF files);

 - all materials that will be digitalized over time.

The first two projects currently present on the site are the project relating to the fragments of medieval manuscripts, inventoried and catalogued for the first time in 2009 and that relating to the parchments rolls - the entire diplomatic collection was digitally reproduced and is currently available for consultation online, equipped with editions in the case of the oldest scrolls.

We are sincerely grateful to the generous help of the Fondazione Cassa di Risparmio di Pistoia e Pescia, which made the construction of this site and all the research activities found here possible.
